WAKE UP BABE, FIRST PREPUBLICATION REVIEW FOR MENDO JUST DROPPED

Delighted to share a starred review from Publishers Weekly!

A moment I have feared and also quite looked forward to: the first media responses to my first book. I spent a year with this thing all to myself, so it’s great to turn it loose to the world and have nice things said about it.

Positive adjectives include “raucous”, and “riveting reading”, and quite possibly other nice words beginning with R. Check it out here, and you can always preorder here. It’s possible I’ll get in trouble if I tell you not to order it from Amazon, so I’ll stop just short of that.

A VERY SUCCESSFUL HOST EVENT THAT WAS ALSO EXTREMELY FUN

Host head honcho Alessandro Trimarchi cooked up a plant identification app focused on Barcelona’s Collserola; and then he cooked up some bespoke hikes; and then he cooked up a lot of really incredible food for a concluding event with our dear friends at Curv HQ.

My role was limited to the app, which we will say for the purposes of this promotional article was the best bit. Alessandro’s design allowed users to point their phones at plants and ID them. The fancy tech involved then sorted our intrepid botanists into four categories based on the plants they were drawn to.

All of that coding is frankly beyond me. What is within my purview was pitching in on the copy for the app, so I did that.

We had a lot of attendees. We had a lot of good food. We changed a venue at the last moment because of African Swine Flu, which nobody caught. We all got hats. Win after win.

I HAVE A POEM IN THE LATEST MUDROOM MAGAZINE (ISSUE 20), WHICH IS NICE

I’ve never had a poem published before, and I haven’t even written that many, so my ratio is probably pretty good on those. It was really fun to do, and I also performed it live.

It is not autofiction, and I would like to highlight for any prospective clients that I am more emotionally stable than it suggests. I’m just creative. Don’t worry about it. My next poem will be about how I’m very deadline sensitive. Write what you know, you know?

Here it is.
